MaasStroom Energie

Rotterdam, the Netherlands

InterGen broke ground on the 428 MW natural gas-fueled MaasStroom Energie facility on April 3, 2008. The plant is adjacent to InterGen's existing 800 MW Rijnmond facility, located in the Rotterdam Botlek area. The planned facility, to be complete by 2010, will bring the total generation capacity at the site to just over 1,200 MW - equivalent to approximately 7.5% of Dutch electricity consumption.

InterGen will utilize proven and environmentally responsible technology in constructing and operating the facility. In anticipation of future air quality legislation in the Netherlands, InterGen elected to voluntarily install SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) at MaasStroom to control nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, making the power plant the first natural gas fired facility in the Netherlands to deploy SCR technology. As such, in addition to being one of the most efficient facilities on the Dutch grid, MaasStroom Energie will be very clean.

Pursuant to an agreement signed in November of 2006, once construction is complete, Centrica will supply the gas required to fuel the plant and will have the rights to its entire output.
