Island Power
Singapore
InterGen’s Island Power Project is a proposed 785 MW natural gas-fired, combined-cycle electric power facility to be built on Jurong Island in Singapore. Island Power will be the first independent power producer to participate in Singapore’s deregulated power pool market. InterGen will invest approximately US$800 million (S$1.2 billion) in the development and construction of Island Power.
The state-of-the-art power station will be one of Singapore’s most efficient power plants. The plant will continue Singapore’s trend towards reliance on more environmentally friendly gas-fired plants and will help improve Singapore’s air quality by displacing older, higher emission oil-fired facilities. The project will also be one of the lowest marginal cost generators in the market, contribute substantially to Singapore's economic development, and will help to meet the country's need for low cost, environmentally friendly generating capacity.
Rijnmond 2
Rotterdam, The Netherlands
InterGen will build this 400 MW natural gas fueled power unit adjacent to its existing 800 MW Rijnmond 1 facility, located in the Rotterdam Botlek area. The planned expansion, which should be complete by 2010, will bring Rijnmond’s generation capacity to just over 1200 MW, equivalent to approximately 7.5% of Dutch electricity consumption.
InterGen will utilize proven and environmentally responsible technology in constructing and operating the planned facility. In anticipation of future air quality legislation in the Netherlands, InterGen has decided to voluntarily install SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) at the 400 MW plant. SCR is advanced technology for the control of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions from power plants and is designated by most countries as the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) for NOx emissions. Rijnmond is already one of the most efficient facilities on the Dutch grid, and now it will be the first natural gas fired power plant in the Netherlands to deploy SCR technology.
Pursuant to an agreement signed in November of 2006, once construction is complete, Centrica will supply the gas required to fuel the plant and will have the rights to its entire output.
