Reporting to the Production Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day safety, generation and environmental performance of the plant. Providing supervision of the Production Technicians, you will ensure plant performance is optimised and maintenance activities are carried out to ensure availability and reliability are optimised.

 Main Contacts:  This position interacts with both internal and external contacts.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day safety and environmental performance of the plant.
  • Responsible for maximising the availability of the plant and taking proactive measures to improve plant reliability.
  • Implements the companies’ health, safety and environmental management policies.
  • Participates in the HSE forum and initiates company/site HSE initiatives and activities, including procedure reviews on a periodic basis.
  • Responsible for monitoring plant performance, identifying and taking proactive measures to improve performance shortfalls.    
  • Augment plant efficiencies and engineering solutions.
  • Responsible for utilising ‘on shift’ maintenance skills to carry out routine maintenance and repairs to emergent defects.
  • Providing supervision of Production Technicians to include first line fault finding, technical advice and back up, particularly in dynamic conditions such as unit start-up or trip.
  • Operational liaison with National Grid Transco, gas suppliers and the Energy Management Centre with regard to levels of fuel import and power export/import.
  • Co-ordinating safety with regard to work activities, releasing plant for maintenance and carrying out isolation, high voltage switching and preparation and issue of safety documentation.
  • Carrying out dynamic safety risk assessments to ensure that adequate shift cover is in place to meet the commercial needs.
  • Undertaking the role of emergency controller, responsible for managing all site emergencies safely and in line with local procedures
  • Shift logging, ensuring quality defect reporting, fault reporting and writing and review of operational work specifications.
  • Project work as delegated.
  • Producing detailed plant incident reports for any loss of generation and any health, safety and environmental incidents.
  • Outage planning, scheduling and co-ordination.
  • Participate in employee recruitment, selection, reviews and training.
  • Build and maintain a culture of team work where team members can and want to contribute to their full potential.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Production Shift Team, including managing individual and team performance.
  • Be a key member of the Management Team.



Minimum of HND in an Engineering discipline with practical maintenance experience/knowledge (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience).

A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, NEBOSH or IOSH qualified is preferable and a good, practical working knowledge of Power Plant Performance would be viewed positively.

Certificate / License: None required.
Knowledge: Knowledge and experience of power generation process, permit and safety systems, HV switching and switchgear, steam cycle chemistry, performance monitoring, reading technical drawings, computers and computer applications.

Experience: A minimum of five years Power Plant O&M experience in a supervisory role.

Experience to have been gained in an Operational/Production role, to a minimum level of operating from a control room, with supervision of a Production/Operational team being desirable.
