Purpose

To manage a team with responsibility for optimising the InterGen portfolio through forward trading and origination whilst adhering to the trading risk management policies and procedures. They will lead and manage a team of trader/analysts with a focus on being a high performing team delivering gross margin and developing the InterGen Trading function.

Job Summary

The responsibilities of the Forward Trading and Origination Manager will change over time as the portfolio continues to develop and as a result of changes in the gas and power markets. Principal responsibilities are described below:

  • Develop and manage UK forward trading strategy
  • Develop and execute origination strategies in relation to all InterGen UK assets
  • Pursue origination of current and new energy services and products in line with regional commercial and trading strategy, including preparation of term sheets, tender documentation and co-ordinating supporting analytics
  • Develop analytical processes and reporting to support forward optimisation of InterGen UK assets
  • Work with Risk Management to ensure trading strategy is aligned with risk appetite and risk policies
  • Derive and distribute daily trading instructions and check execution of the instruction
  • Facilitate daily and weekly trading meetings in accordance with the risk policy
  • Ensure execution of forward trading strategy as set by the business
  • Support initiatives, integration activities and trading strategies for growth team, where directed
  • Plan and execute the integration of all new assets, contracts, systems and processes into Trading & Commercial departments
  • Work with Business Information and System Management to develop trading performance reporting including key KPIs
  • Work with Finance to deliver Gross Margin forecasts for Business Plan / Reforecasts
  • Be a leader by example and capable of operating the forward trading desk
  • Monitor and feedback the performance of team members both informally and formally through review process
  • Implement development plans with team members to ensure a fully skilled and motivated team
  • Conduct recruitment for the forward trading team to maintain a skilled and high performing team
  • Attend training sessions, industry events and networking events to maintain trading/market knowledge, expand market contacts and identify opportunities to develop the InterGen Trading and Commercial function
  • Appropriately delegate tasks and objectives, setting SMART performance objectives aligned with strategic goals
  • Ensure direct reports personal development plans are developed and supported with appropriate training
  • Participate in succession planning, talent retention and performance monitoring of direct reports
  • Participate in process designed to ensure appropriate training and resources (budget and manpower) to fulfil current and forecast work load.

Education

  • Educated to at least degree level in a numerical subject
  • Professional qualifications in analytics, risk management, investments or similar area (preferred)

Experience

  • Energy industry experience, minimum of 5 years
  • UK power, gas and carbon forward trading experience
  • Project management experience
  • People management experience
  • Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system experience desirable
  • Origination/Business Development experience desirable
  • Risk management experience desirable

Travel

  • Ad Hoc, expected to attend training courses, industry events and networking opportunities to maintain market contacts and trading/market knowledge
