The rotations

Whilst on the programme, you will rotate across a minimum of three departments within the commercial operations function.  Depending on the role, these placements will last from between 3 and 12 months.

The Operational Trading Desk is responsible for trading, optimising and dispatching our gas-fired power stations. Working a 24/7 shift pattern, the team deliver critical power generation supporting National Grid balance supply and demand as well as ancillary services to provide system stability. The forward trading desk is responsible for hedging the forward financial exposures of the InterGen assets in the power, gas and carbon markets. Rotations through the Trading team will allow you to gain a real-life understanding of how to optimise generation assets as well as practical experience of dispatching these assets and trading in commodity markets.

Analytics are carried out within the trading team and during this rotation you will be working closely with the prompt and forward trading desks to provide accurate and timely analysis to support trading strategies. Working alongside a data scientist and our BI team to source data and build models, this role is integral to the success of the trading team.

Commercial manage our existing long-term contracts in addition to origination of new opportunities to underpin the profitability of our generation assets. Industry Regulation sits alongside the commercial team responsibilities and requires getting to the heart of regulatory changes across electricity and gas charging areas as well as wider commercial engagement with external stakeholders.  You may be asked to support responses to regulatory changes that will affect the operational business as well as managing external communications with regulators, counterparties, government and other public organisations. This rotation will be wide ranging in experience and provide you with varied commercial experience and knowledge of how the UK power and gas markets work and where they are headed.
