The Role

We are in search of an experienced Plant Engineer to join the InterGen team at Spalding, with primary oversight for our gas-fired 300 MW OCGT power plant.  Our goal is to optimise the reliability of the OCGT, which we can only achieve with your help. You will oversee all engineering functions to ensure the plant is able to operate safely and in line with business requirements. As be part of a supportive site team that covers both the CCGT and OCGT power plants, you will also have opportunity to assist in projects and outages at the CCGT as and when OCGT commitments allow.

Summary of Responsibilities

Primary coordination of all engineering activities for the OCGT plant equipment including the gas turbine, generator, transformers, switchgear, auxiliaries, control system and associated balance of plant.

Proactively manage the OCGT assets in accordance with a risk-based engineering and maintenance strategy, ensuring appropriate periodic maintenance is completed, suitable predictive/condition-based monitoring techniques are applied, and corrective maintenance is effective.

The OCGT Plant Engineer will provide the first-line lead across all engineering disciplines, whilst obtaining second opinions / guidance as necessary from the wider in-house team of engineering specialists (including mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation engineers) to ensure solutions are technically appropriate and fit for purpose.

Coordinate all outage work for the OCGT throughout the outage definition, planning, execution and close out phases, ensuring outages are completed safely and to quality, time and cost targets.

Conduct technical investigations, fault finding, trending and analysis to aid resolution of issues and liaise with the maintenance and operation teams to gain support as needed, with a particular focus on ensuring the highest levels of plant reliability.

Perform root cause analyses into actual plant failures or anomalies, developing and implementing action plans to prevent repeat/future losses.

Coordinate with in-house maintenance personnel and external providers to ensure suitable procedures, routines, work orders and maintenance contracts are in place to comply with OEM recommendations and good industry practice.

On behalf of the Engineering Manager, conduct all business planning activities for the OCGT, including outage forecasting, budget setting, the annual Plant Status Review and maintaining the Risks & Opportunities register.

Ensure an appropriate inventory of spares parts is held sufficient for breakdown response, planned maintenance, outages and as strategic spares.

Identify, propose, justify, plan and deliver plant improvement projects.

Drive continuous improvement projects to deliver against KPIs, including setting, tracking and communicating.

Manage contracts with OEMs for key equipment to develop strong relationships and ultimately ensure rapid technical support when required.

Support the wider InterGen team at Spalding by providing engineering, project and outage support as required for the 950 MW CCGT, as and when requested by the Engineering Manager.

To be on call and to change working patterns where necessary in order to support the team and meet the needs of the business.

Your background is likely to be in a specific engineering discipline (mechanical, C&I or electrical), however you will also have a good appreciation of the other disciplines and be keen to expand your knowledge across them all. This will enable you to progress project work, technical investigations and troubleshooting that encompasses all the engineering disciplines.  You will be autonomous in the main, whilst drawing specialists in to support when needed.

Your Qualifications/Experience

Ideally Degree qualified in an Engineering or related discipline, although HNC/HND with a high level of experience will also be considered
