Working a 12hr shift pattern days & nights, with an initial period of day work.
To operate the power station in a safe and efficient manner and to perform routine testing and monitoring in accordance with the OEM requirements and industry best practice, to ensure plant reliability and availability is maximised.

Job Summary

Principal responsibilities are described below:

  • Adherence to the company’s health, safety and environmental management policies and procedures,
  • Participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE Forum activities,
  • Analysis and understanding of historic data and information to determine the causes of plant events or trips,
  • Use of Maintenance Management System to complete and record operational and HSE tasks to ensure ongoing compliance,
  • Operation and supervision of the power generation process from a central control room including carrying out both internal and external plant operations & checks and predictive & preventive monitoring tasks,
  • Carrying out pre-start checks and operational procedures to ensure that the plant is fully prepared for return to service following maintenance, outage or other shutdown period,
  • Responding to first line and breakdown maintenance requirements as far as qualifications, skills and experience permits – assisting maintenance / engineering functions during maintenance periods,
  • Participating in projects and initiatives as delegated, whilst ensuring strict compliance with Management of Change procedures,
  • Carrying out routine on-load and off-load testing of plant and apparatus for the purpose of ensuring that safety critical protective systems and stand-by systems are fully functional,
  • Reviewing, writing and amending operational procedures and reviewing site drawings and updating site labelling. Implementing changes and improvements as required, to ensure all procedures, drawing and labels are accurate,
  • Carrying out simple analysis of water / steam cycle chemistry and implementing corrective actions to dosing and blow down systems,
  • Shift logging, ensuring quality defect reporting & writing and reviewing of operational work specifications,
  • Operating FLTs and other site vehicles as required,
  • Undertake training to enact the duties of Acceptor, Issuer and Appointed Person under the Intergen Safety Rules. A desire to progress towards Safety Controller status is also required.
  • Undertake training and competency based learning programmes to establish and maintain proficiency in carrying out key operational tasks as required,
  • Undertake training to act in the capacity of First Aider,
  • Undertake training and competency based learning programmes,
  • Undertake and maintain training to become authorised to enter the 400kV switchyard for monitoring purposes, and authorised for switching and applying isolations in the 400kV switchyard
  • Secondments as required to assist in the delivery of outages at other sites or locations
  • Flexibility to change working patterns or provide additional cover where necessary, in order to meet the needs of the business,
  • Supporting other areas of the business as needs arise, ensuring out of hours support is available as and when required, particularly in dynamic situations such as unit start-up or trip.

Skills / Competencies / Experience

  • Knowledge of heavy industrial power generation plant equipment,
  • Operations and/or maintenance experience associated with Gas/Steam turbines; boilers; balance of plant and computer aided Maintenance Management applications,
  • Excellent written and oral communication,
  • Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated and committed attitude to work,
  • Excellent computer skills with good knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet functions,
  • High work standards with a conscientious and meticulous attention to detail,
  • A team player who strives to perform at their very best
  • Understanding of company Safety Rules


  • Minimum of HND in a relevant Engineering / Operational discipline with a high level of practical knowledge and experience (qualifications below this may be acceptable if evidenced by suitable experience)
  • Safety related education, e.g. IOSH or NEBOSH certificate
