To operate the power station in a safe and efficient manner and to perform all types of maintenance in accordance with the OEM requirements and prudent industry practice to ensure availability is maximised.

Job Summary

Principal responsibilities are described below:

  • Implementing the company’s health, safety and environmental management policies
  • Participating in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE Forum activities
  • Analysis of drawings, technical reports, technical manuals and vendor information to collate and produce maintenance and routine work instructions, method statements and risk assessments
  • Use maintenance management system to complete operational and HSE tasks to ensure compliance
  • Carrying out operation and supervision of the power generation process from a central control room and by carrying out external plant operations and checks
  • Carrying out pre-start checks and operational procedures to ensure that the plant is fully ready for return to service following maintenance, outage or other short or prolonged shutdown
  • Responding to first line and breakdown maintenance requirements as far as qualifications, skills and experience permits – assisting maintenance/engineering functions in any such maintenance
  • Participating in projects and initiatives as delegated, whilst ensuring strict compliance with Management of Change procedures
  • Carrying out routine on-load and off-load testing for the purpose of ensuring protective systems and stand-by systems are functional
  • Writing and amending site procedures, reviewing site drawings and updating site labelling. Implementing changes and improvements as required, to ensure all procedures, drawing and labels are accurate
  • Carrying out simple analysis of steam cycle chemistry and implementing corrective actions to dosing and blow down systems
  • Shift logging, ensuring quality defect reporting and writing, reviewing of operational work specifications
  • Operating FLTs and other site vehicles as required
  • Undertakes training and enact the duties of Acceptor, Safety Controller, Issuer and Appointed Person under the Safety Rules
  • Undertaking training and competency based learning programmes to establish and maintain proficiency in carrying out key production tasks as required
  • Undertake training to become multi-skilled in activities associated with Electrical, Control and Instrumentation, and Mechanical duties
  • Undertake training and competency based learning programmes, including secondments where necessary, to Production Day Team
  • Undertake and maintain training to be authorised to enter the 400kV switchyard for monitoring purposes and authorised for switching and isolation in the 400kV switchyard
  • Secondments as required to assist in the delivery of outages at other sites or locations
  • Available to change working patterns where necessary in order to meet the needs of the business
  • Supporting other areas of the business as needs arise, ensuring out of hours support is available as and when required, particularly in dynamic situations such as unit start-up or trip.

The individual will need to be a self-motivated individual with exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills. The individual must be suited to a culture which is entrepreneurial, fast paced, value-driven, and with very high corporate performance and ethical standards. The individual will need to be very comfortable working in a lean structure and should possess strong ethical and moral standards.

  • Knowledge of power generation operations and maintenance associated with Gas/Steam turbines; boilers; balance of plant and computer aided Maintenance Management applications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication;
  • Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated and committed attitude to work;
  • Excellent computer skills with good knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet functions;
  • High work standards with a conscious and meticulous attention to detail.


  • Minimum of HND in an Engineering discipline with a high level of practical operational/maintenance experience/knowledge (qualifications below this may be acceptable if evidenced by suitable experience)
  • Safety related education, eg. IOSH or NEBOSH certificate


  • At least 3 years’ experience in power generation industry operations and maintenance, or related heavy industry
